Kansas Community Health Corps

KAMU sponsors an AmeriCorps program - the Kansas Community Health Corps, which places corps members in primary care safety net clinics throughout the state. Currently, 20 members are serving their communities, clinics and health centers by:

Assisting families in enrolling their children in HealthWave.

Providing outreach and creating processes to screen women for Breast and Cervical Cancer through Early Detection Works.

Providing education and support services to diabetic patients.

Enrolling patients in diabetes prevention and support programs.

Assisting patients in obtaining low cost or free prescriptions.

Recruiting, training, managing and recognizing community volunteers.

Organizing focus groups, community needs assessment surveys and community meetings to assist sites in preparing grant applications for FQHC look-alike status.

2005-2006 Kansas Community Health Corps sites and members.

AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country’s critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. The Kansas Community Health Corps is the only AmeriCorps program in Kansas that is focused on access to health care.

Want to get involved in your community?

In 1992 the Kansas Volunteer Commission was established to promote volunteerism in Kansas. The Commission oversees all AmeriCorps* Kansas programs and is a clearinghouse for volunteer programs throughout the state.
