CLINICAL QUALITY AREA
The challenges that Kansas clinicians, who provide health care in the safety net clinics, face are enormous when considering that population demographics are changing, the number of uninsured individuals is growing -the Kansas safety net clinics are considered a “medical home” for more than 55,000 uninsured individuals, and the direct and indirect financial support for the clinics is eroding.
The Clinical Quality Area focuses on responding to these critical issues with new, innovative and culturally sensitive approaches that will improve access to clinical preventive care and decrease morbidity and mortality rates in Kansas.
HPV Project
KAMU is taking part in a program initiated by two foundations to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in women.
The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City and REACH Healthcare Foundation have made grants totaling $2.5 million to provide the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine voluntarily for qualified females in Kansas and Missouri. Community and public health programs are distributing the vaccine at no cost to eligible females.
In partnership with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, KAMU is serving as the fiscal agent for this project, working with the Kansas sites where the vaccine is being distributed.
